The Gospel.
It is the greatest news any ear could ever hear. It is the most incredible and extravagant form of love ever shown. It is what saves our souls from eternal punishment and in place offers us a seat next to our Heavenly Father forever.
Yet, we abuse it everyday.
The Gospel is not to be used for our own personal gain. It is not to grant us things that we believe to be deserving of. The Gospel is that Jesus demands your life so that He can become your life. (Matthew 16:23-24)
I don’t want to abuse the Gospel anymore. I don’t want my faith to be self focused and self centered, only going to Jesus when I need something. The gospel isn’t self help. Jesus isn’t here to help your life, He is here to become your life. The gospel isn’t about you or me at all. It’s all about Jesus and Jesus alone. Everything points back to Him and what He did on the cross.
Jesus also isn’t a package deal. I think we have started to view the Christian faith as some sort of package deal. As if believing that following Jesus means you will get benefits or things added to your life. Believing that if you follow Jesus, you will gain approval from others. Believing that if you follow Jesus, you will find a husband or wife. Believing that if you follow Jesus, you will find your purpose in life. This is a self focused faith.
All of these things are all means to an end.
Jesus isn’t a means to you finding your purpose.
Jesus isn’t a means to you gaining approval from others.
Jesus isn’t a means to you finding a spouse.
THESE THINGS WERE NOT PROMISED.
Jesus is a means to Jesus. Meaning that Jesus Christ IS the end. He is the beginning and the end. When you follow Jesus, you GET Jesus. In Jesus, you HAVE Jesus. That is enough. You don’t need all the other things that we have added to Him.
Jesus said “I have come to give you life” (john 10:10). HE came. Not Him and all these other things. He is enough. He is sufficient. He is all we need. The things that we have added to Him must be crucified. They have taken up too much room in our lives and have blurred our vision of who Jesus actually is. All of it pales in comparison to who He is.
When you stand face to face with Jesus, it will only be you and Him. It will not be Him and the amount of followers you had. It will not be Him and what your GPA was. It will not be Him and your friend group. It will not be Him and your aesthetic instagram. It will not be Him and your favorite worship song that makes you feel goosebumps.
It will just. be. Him.
Jesus. alone.
Let Him be sufficient for you right now. He is enough. Stop adding things to Him.
Jesus Christ is the alpha and omega. The beginning and the end. We should be treating Him that way!!!! He is deserving and worthy of all praise and attention!!!! worthy is the Lamb on eternal repeat.
Read Colossians 1:13-22!!!
